More contents on Chinese traditional culture will be tested in the senior high school entrance examination and the gaokao, China's college entrance exam, the Ministry of Education said.

The ministry released on March 31 a series of guidelines that aims to spread Chinese traditional culture among students from elementary school through college, and nurture students' love for traditional culture.

The guidelines, which have been drafted since June, require that more lessons on Chinese traditional culture should be included in primary and middle school textbooks, especially for subjects like Chinese language, history, arts and physical education.

The teaching of other subjects, such as math, geography, physics, chemistry and biology, should also be combined with Chinese traditional culture as much as possible, according to the guidelines.

The guidelines also said schools should hold events and activities at cultural venues, including museums, galleries, theatres and historic sites, to help students learn more about Chinese traditional culture.
