100-year-old railway still in operation
A 376-meter railway built in 1914 and 1915 was discovered in a factory of Hengyang, Xiaoxiang Morning Post reported on Sunday. The railway, still in use, is a connection section from the factory to the Hunan-Guangxi railway. It is also the first railway in the city. The traditional Chinese characters can be clearly seen inside the rail, showing the production unit and date. The Hanyang Steel Plant, which built the rail, made 330 kilometers of rail from 1894 to 1924.
