Shanghai has prosecuted 1,892 people in alleged financial crimes, including the illegal absorption of public deposits, fraudulent fundraising and the use of confidential information to trade, from January to November 2014.

That is a 52 percent increase year over year, the Shanghai annual procuratorate work conference said in statement released earlier this week.

The procuratorate made 14 suggestions to strengthen financial innovation-risk assessment and urged the creation of an Internet financial supervisory system.

The procuratorate made a guideline opinion on application of criminal laws in the Shanghai Free Trade Zone (FTZ) last year, creating a legal guarantee for the development of FTZ.

The procuratorate also issued opinions on prevention and investigation of job-related crimes last year. From January to November 2014, the investigating and prosecuting apparatus in the city had filed and investigated 346 cases on corruption involving 433 people, five of whom are bureau chiefs and 31 division directors at the county head level. The authorities investigated 36 cases of dereliction of duties.

To better respond to the increase of cases in some hot fields, the procuratorate conducted field research on some key issues, such as urbanization and job-related consumption in State-owned enterprises.

The procuratorate provided judicial aid for 205 people from January to November last year, and 173 juveniles suspected of committing crimes received conditional non-prosecution.

The procuratorate launched some new information services. The people can look up the procedures of lawsuits on the Internet and receive relevant information by text message on cell phones. The procuratorate set up standards for translators to facilitate the investigation and processing of cases involving foreigners.

The city's investigating and prosecuting organs approved the arrest of 27,716 people suspected of crimes and initiated public prosecution against 40,830 people in all during the first 11 months of 2014.
