BEIJING - East and south China provinces are on high alert for an approaching super typhoon that may bring gales and storms to the coast and some inland regions of China.
The National Meteorological Center (NMC) on Tuesday predicted that Super Typhoon Soudelor, the 13th typhoon of 2015, is expected to make landfall in Fujian and neighboring Zhejiang Province late on Saturday.
Heavy rain and wind will affect both coastal and inland regions stretching from Guangdong province in South China, to Zhejiang province in east China, in the coming days, according to the NMC.
The State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters on Tuesday urged local authorities to take precautions.
The NMC said the center of Soudelor is about 1,660 kilometers southeast of the Diaoyu Islands at 5 p.m., Tuesday.
