HONG KONG -- Hong Kong director Wong Kar-wai 's blockbuster movie "The Grandmaster" has been submitted for nomination to the Oscars Academy Awards.
According to the Asia Pacific Daily's report on Monday, "The Grandmaster" will be launched to compete for the official nomination of various awards in the 86th Oscars, including the Best Foreign Film, the Best Director, the Best Actor and Actress, etc.
The pick was made by the Federation of Motion Film Producers of Hong Kong Limited, the city's only authorized institution to make selection to enter the Oscars' nomination. Crucindo Hung Cho-sing, chairman of the Federation, said two other great movies, " Unbeatable", and "Ip Man-The Final Fight", were under their consideration. But the selection committee still made "The Grandmaster" as the final choice.
"The Grandmaster" tells the story of local Wing Chun master Ip Man's entire life, with the hidden rationale of reflecting the spirits of Kung Fu into reality, and the well-rounded depiction of Hong Kong's history over the past decades.
It stars Tony Leung, Zhang Ziyi, Chang Chen, etc, who had delved themselves into learning Kung Fu for years in preparation of the shooting, in spite of their fame in the industry. Director Wong Kar-wai added a wide variety of artistic elements therein, winning applauds from audiences in the Greater China region, as well as the United States.
The spokesperson of the movie's producer said the production crew are exciting about the news.
"It's our honor to have it selected to represent Hong Kong in the Oscars," said the spokesperson, "We are thankful to the recognition by the selection committee in Hong Kong, and we do hope 'The Grandmaster' can shine in the top notch international venue."
The 2014 Oscars will be presented on March 2 in Los Angeles.
