Six upcoming summits of note

BRICS Summit

The 5th BRICS Summit will be held in March in Durban, South Africa. The acronym refers to the major emerging economies of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

East Asia Summit

The 8th East Asia Summit will be held in Brunei in June. The meeting is a regional leaders' forum for strategic dialogue and cooperation on key challenges facing the East Asian region. The 16 members include China, the United States, Japan, the ROK and Russia.

The G8 Summit

The G8 Summit will be held from June 17-18 in the United Kingdom. The G8 member nations are Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, the UK and the US.

The G20 Summit

The G20 Leaders' Summit will be held Sept 5-6 in St. Petersburg, Russia. The forum is for international cooperation on the most important issues on the global economic and financial agenda. It brings together finance ministers and central bank governors from countries that include China, Japan, the ROK, Russia and the US.

APEC Leaders' Meeting

The APEC Summit will be held in Bali, Indonesia, in October. The forum's primary goal is to support sustainable economic growth and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region. APEC has 21 members, including China, the US, Japan, the ROK and Russia.

Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit

This year's summit will be held in Kyrgyzstan. The SCO, founded in 2001, has six full members - China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
