Obama visits China November 2009

US President Barack Obama met President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao for a meeting in which they established the US-China Strategic and Economic Dialogue, pledging to work together as nations to help the global economy regain its growth and stability.

Clinton visits China

Xi visits the US

February 2012

Vice-President Xi Jinping traveled to the US to meet President Obama and discuss trade and currency issues. Xi defended China's human rights record and also said he hoped his visit would deepen mutual understanding and friendship between the two powers.

Panetta visits China

September 2012

US Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta met with Defense Minister Liang Guanglie to promote closer military ties between China and the US based on equality, reciprocity and active cooperation.
