Deadly leak at Samsung plant

A toxic chemical leak at a Samsung Electronics chipmaking plant in the Republic of Korea left one worker dead and four injured, the company said on Tuesday. The five repair workers were called in on Sunday night to stop the leak of diluted hydrofluoric acid at the plant in the city of Hwaseong, 43 km southwest of Seoul, a Samsung spokesman said.

Arrests made in nightclub fire

Brazilian police officials said on Monday they've detained three people and are seeking a fourth person in connection with a blaze that ripped through a nightclub in southern Brazil over the weekend, killing more than 230 people. Inspector Ranolfo Vieira Junior said that the detentions are for investigative purposes. DPRK

Google unveils detailed map

Weeks after its chairman Eric Schmidt's secretive visit to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Google has rolled out a detailed map of the country. Until now the DPRK was pretty much a blank canvas to users of Google's "Map Maker", which creates maps from data that is provided by the public.

Plane crash claims 22

A passenger plane crashed in thick fog near Almaty on Tuesday, killing all 22 people on board, an emergency services official said. The plane was en route from the city of Kokshetau in northern Kazakhstan to Almaty in the southeast when it crashed near the village of Kyzyl Tu, Deputy Almaty Mayor Maulen Mukashev said.

Army chief warns of crisis

Egypt's army chief warned on Tuesday of the "the collapse of the state" if the political crisis roiling the nation for nearly a week continues. The warning by Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi, who is also defense minister, were the first comments by the powerful military since the country's latest crisis began last week.
