Seattle: Air award The Seattle office of Hainan Airlines celebrated its 20th anniversary on Thursday at the landmark Space Needle. Washington: Calligraphy celebrated Peg Barratt, dean of arts and sciences at George Washington University, opens a calligraphy exhibition on May 3 at the university's newly established Confucius Institute. The show features the work of 13 Chinese artists and a section devoted to calligraphy pieces by American students. Toronto: Open invitation The Buddhist Association of Canada and Toronto's Cham Shan Temple will host spiritual meetings and vegetarian banquets on May 17 and June 9 to commemorate the birth of the Shakyamuni Buddha and raise money for Mount Wutai Temple in Ontario. Toronto: Having a ball The Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Toronto will host an Imperial Ball on May 25 to raise money for a Heritage Hall on its premises. The theme of this year's ball is Panda Magic, in recognition of the recent transfer to the Toronto Zoo of two giant pandas, Da Mao and Er Shun, from China. The event will include performances by an acrobatic troupe from Sichuan province and dancers from the school of Toronto's City Ballet.
