Cupid's House: 'We are no longer operating'

"We are no longer operating," said the man who answered the telephone at what was once known as " Cupid's House," a boarding hotel for pregnant Chinese women in heavily Asian-populated Flushing, Queens, in New York City.

Though he said the home was closed, its website - USANYBABY.COM - remains on the Internet, listing services, charges, advice to potential customers and showing photos of the house and rooms inside. " Miss Nancy" is listed as the "contact person".

The man, who identified himself as an assistant to Miss Nancy, said the home had been closed for two months because "she said she was just tired and wanted to close".

It operated for about six years, women had to stay at least three to four months and the charge was between 100,000 yuan ($16,260) and 115,000 yuan ($18,699) for a stay, he said.

The website, which is in Chinese and English, describes the home as:"Quiet space, indoor and outdoor, are spacious and comfortable, each room is equipped with broadband internet access, cable TV, DVD machines and other equipment. Public areas refrigerator, telephone, microwave appliances are also readily available. Warm and professional service, hoping to make you feel at home, comfortable and happy."
