1991: Alan and Eric: Between Hello and Goodbye
Chan's first feature film revolves around a woman and the two men who love her. Their friendship and romance lasts for decades and is told in typical Peter Chan style - touching, romantic and warm.
1994: He's a Woman, She's a Man
A girl poses as a male singer to approach a music producer she fancies, leading to a farcical situation when they work together on an album. The producer falls in love with "him" and questions his sexual preferences. The late Leslie Cheung plays the producer in one of his most interesting performances.
1996: Comrades: Almost a Love Story
The emotional drama won both popular and critical acclaim. It follows two mainland migrants to Hong Kong and their romance, breaking up and reuniting in the United States years later. The film was voted the 28th Greatest Chinese Film at the Hong Kong Film Awards. It is also listed as one of the 100 Greatest Chinese Films of the 20th Century by Asia Weekly Magazine.
2005: Perhaps Love
The musical not only won Chan a record 29 awards, but paved the way for his first foray into the mainland market.
2007: The Warlords
The epic war drama is so far the most successful film Chan has made on the mainland. It grossed $48 million in Asia, over $35 million of which came from China alone.
2011: Wuxia (or Dragon)
Chan's bold attempt to rejuvenate the old genre of martial arts cinema portrays a former assassin determined to lead a normal life, and a detective determined to investigate him. Chan was confident about the film, but it received very mixed reviews. Box office takings were also unsatisfactory. Time Magazine's Richard Corliss selected it as one of the top 10 films of 2012.
