Settlement in car plate case

A Beijing woman will inherit the license plate from her late husband's car after reaching an out-of-court settlement with her mother-in-law. In March, the woman, named Ren, filed a lawsuit against her mother-in-law over the license plate on her husband's car, claiming it was part of her inheritance from her 41-year-old spouse who was killed in a storm in July, 2012. The plaintiff and defendant reached an out-of-court settlement on Tuesday.

Shaanxi

Robber buried in ancient tomb

A robber was killed on Sunday when he became trapped in an ancient tomb in Xianyang, Shaanxi province. Police said suspected robbers went out on Saturday night to loot the tomb. On Sunday morning, one of the three was buried underground when the hole they were digging collapsed. The other two turned themselves in and told police about the other man later.

Men outnumber women by 5.56m

There are 5.56 million more males than females in Guangdong province, according to the Analysis on the Population Development in Guangdong Province published in Southern Metropolis Daily on Wednesday. The province's population was 105.94 million at the end of 2012, including 55.75 million men and 50.19 million women. More than 1.22 million babies were born in Guangdong last year.

Student finds foam in thermos

A college student in Shanghai alerted police after discovering strange foam floating in her dormitory's thermos, police said on Wednesday. The Sanda University freshman surnamed Zhu alerted police about the foam as soon as she found it on Tuesday night. Zhu did not drink the water in the thermos and tests of the water's quality are under way, police said.

Henan

Official executed for raping 11 girls

An official in Henan province was executed on Tuesday for raping 11 underage girls, sources with the Henan Higher People's Court confirmed on Wednesday. Li Xingong, former deputy secretary-general of the Yongcheng Party committee, was arrested in May 2012 and charged with raping girls in 2011. The Shangqiu City Intermediate People's Court sentenced Li to death.

Boy driver halted on expressway

A man in Jiaozuo, Henan province, was fined 1,500 yuan ($245) by traffic police after being caught teaching his 13-year-old son to drive a truck on an expressway. The man was stopped by police while instructing his son on Monday. As the boy was under 14 and cannot be fined under the law, police fined the father under the traffic regulations.
