Official arrested in graft investigation
A senior official was arrested on suspicion of violating laws and Party discipline in Guangdong province, according to a statement from Guangdong Provincial People's Procuratorate. Chen Hongping, 59, former Party chief of Jieyang city, is also suspected to have accepted a large sum in bribes while in office, the statement released on Tuesday said. It did not say how much money was involved, as investigations are continuing.
Tainted-fish suspects held
Two people were arrested after pesticides were found in samples of dried fish, a local delicacy, seized at a workshop last week, according to authorities in the Sanshui district of Foshan, Guangdong province. One of the suspects said most of the fish was sent to Guangning county in Zhaoqing, but the exact amount of tainted fish that entered the market is not known, Yangcheng Evening News reported.
Shandong
Hospital ordered to pay for error
A hospital in Tai'an, Shandong province, has been ordered by a court to pay 20,000 yuan ($3,250) to a couple as compensation for failure to detect a fetal malformation of their child, the People's Court Daily reported on Tuesday. The woman, surnamed Shi, was in the hospital from April to October 2009 for treatment during her pregnancy, which revealed the health of the fetus to be normal. However, the baby was later found to have a deformity of the right hand.

6 human heads found in case
A garbage collector found six human heads in a case last week, according to a report on Tuesday in the Xin'an Evening News, a daily newspaper in Anhui province. The woman, 68, who was not identified, found a locked travel case at Longzi Lake in Bengbu on Saturday morning. On opening it, she discovered the heads and reported the findings to police. Forensic tests showed the heads had been used as specimens for medical research, the report said. Police investigations are continuing.

Student's photo crashes website
The photograph of a female arts graduate on Renmin University of China's home page drew enough traffic to crash the website on Sunday evening. The picture soon drew widespread attention and increasing hits, to the point that the site went down temporarily at about 8pm. The graduate's picture was circulated widely on social media, and some netizens dubbed her "the Goddess of Renmin University".
Abandoned infant discovered alive
A newborn that was abandoned by his grandfather was discovered alive in a park in Chaoyang district on Monday afternoon by a passerby who called the police. The Mirror, a Beijing newspaper, reported on Tuesday that the infant was diagnosed with a brain disease that doctors said could eventually lead to cerebral palsy. Police soon located the child's 17-year-old mother, who came to Beijing from Gansu province in February and works at a college canteen, as well as the grandfather. The woman gave birth to the child at a Beijing hospital four days ago. She declined to say who the child's father is. The woman and her father, who admitted abandoning the child, are being investigated by police.
