Investor accused of whoring
Xue Manzi, a well-known Chinese-American investor whose micro blog has attracted 12 million followers, was detained by police on Friday for suspected whoring, China Central Television reported on Sunday. Xue, 60, and a 22-year-old woman surnamed Zhang from Henan province have confessed their prostitution and whoring behavior, the report said.

A new volume of the Biography of Xi Zhongxun, a respected Communist elder and former vice-premier of China, has been published by the Central Literature Publishing House. The latest volume depicts the contributions made by Xi, the father of President Xi Jinping, to the Chinese socialist revolution.
Emergency call waiting time drops
The waiting time for people calling the emergency number 110 during peak hours in Beijing dropped from 57 to six seconds after civilian staff were brought in last year, Beijing Evening News reported. The system has received at least 3 million calls this year, a year-on-year increase of 16 percent.
Detour to reduce flight delays
Nearly 60 flights will begin a detour around Beijing as of Wednesday in the latest attempt by China's civil aviation authority to reduce flight delays, Beijing News reported on Sunday. The flight schedule in the nation's northern airspace will be adjusted to relieve heavy air traffic in Beijing, officials with Civil Aviation Administration of China said.
Space drink made available to public
The energy drink invented exclusively for astronauts of the Shenzhou VII spaceship may be available to the public next year, Beijing News reported on Sunday. The composition of the drink is similar to body fluid. The drink can be absorbed quickly and re-energize the body. The patent of the drink has been transferred.

Officers' reaction to stabbing probed
Police in Bengbu said on Saturday that they have asked the prosecuting agency to conduct a probe of the controversial reaction of two police officers who witnessed the fatal stabbing of a 17-year-old girl. The girl, surnamed Hu, was killed on Aug 18 in Bengbu's Yuhui district. The officers, standing about 3 meters from the suspect, did not react for 10 seconds while the girl was stabbed eight times.

Man fails selection because of acne
A civil servant candidate in Hunan province failed the selection procedure because he had pimples on his face. Despite having received the highest score on the provincial written test for civil servants, the candidate was told by an official in charge of the test to give up because his pimples could "damage the image of police officers", the position he was applying for. The candidate's application for a re-examination of his case was also rejected by the local authority.
Official fired for receiving gifts
A senior official in Chenxi county has been removed from his post for collecting money while holding feasts to celebrate his daughter heading off to college. The deputy director of the government offices administration, surnamed Zhang, had received 57,000 yuan ($9,310) as gifts from 267 guests, of whom 160 are non-relatives who had contributed 24,000 yuan, county publicity officials said.

1,200 tons of beer downed at festival
The 23rd Qingdao International Beer Festival lowered its curtain on Sunday, with 4 million visitors drinking metric 1,200 tons of beer over the past 16 days, according to its organizing committee. This year's festival attracted 300 different types of beer from 18 countries and regions. The Qingdao government has expanded the festival across the whole city with the Laoshan beer city still as the main venue.
