Blue Ocean Network
Private English-language media group Blue Ocean Network will begin operating a copyright trading center for China-related TV programs in the second half of the year. Using cloud technology, the center will also sell programming from other producers and online videos that will be translated and re-edited for overseas audiences. The company said BON TV provides 24-hour news and programs about China's economy, technology, culture and tourism to some 120 countries and regions.

Astronaut beverage
A factory in the western province is scheduled to begin operation next year to produce a patented beverage for public sale originally designed for Chinese astronauts on the Shenzhou VII manned space mission. The patent is owned by the China Astronaut Research and Training Center.

IP in scientific research
The provincial science and technology administration and the intellectual property office recently unveiled a regulation to promote IP management in scientific research. It sets a target for invention patent ownership at 3.3 per 10,000 people by 2015, up from 2.3 last year. Authorities will also pay more attention to IP in the approval, examination and management of scientific research projects, according to the new regulation.

Topping the index
The province has topped the nation in an index measuring comprehensive intellectual property development over the past five years, according to a provincial conference held at the end of last month. More than 20 percent of the nation's applications and granted patents came from Jiangsu last year, according to a report on national IP development.

Fake soap and socks
Customs officials in Yiwu city recently seized 476 packages of fake Eagle-brand washing powder in a shipment of cargo destined for Guinea. Officers also found more than 3,000 counterfeited Anta, Li-Ning and 361 Degrees brand athletic socks. The products were hidden in plastic baskets and cooking pots.

National pilot city
Nan'an was recently approved as a national intellectual property pilot city by the State Intellectual Property Office. By June, nearly 11,000 patents had been granted to companies and organizations in the city, including 235 invention patents. The local government said it has invested more than 30 million yuan ($4.9 million) in implementing the IP strategies. Forty local enterprises have been granted titles as national or provincial IP demonstration companies.
