Zhou Benshun, Party secretary of Hebei province, led a large delegation in Iowa from Oct 20-22 to mark the 30th anniversary of the sister state relationship between Hebei and Iowa.
Zhou and Iowa Governor Terry Branstad vowed to continue building the relationship, which has proved mutually beneficial over many years. The connection between the two regions was highlighted last year during a visit by Chinese President Xi Jinping, who first traveled to Iowa in 1985 as a county leader and returned as vice-president last year.
Zhou's trip culminated with businesses from both Iowa and Hebei inking 20 memorandums of understanding on Tuesday in the fields of agriculture, trade, tourism, education, machinery and new energy.
China is now Iowa's fourth largest export market, with one in four rows of soybeans grown in the state sold to China.
