To build a peaceful, safe and open cyberspace is the common wish of the international community. Inviting conflicts and wars into cyberspace is against the trend of peaceful development and will sow trouble for the future, says an article in the People's Daily. Excerpts:

The New York Times reported that a confidential legal assessment report said the United States is going to be attacked online. The Washington Post also carried a report saying that the US Ministry of National Defense will enlarge the size of its cyberspace headquarters five times. All these signs indicate the US is taking dangerous steps in the direction of Web warfare.

The Internet plays an important role in every country. Cyberspace security is a big challenge for all the countries as well. The nature of cyberspace makes online threats different from conventional security threats, and should only be addressed through international cooperation.

If the US, as the leading country in cyberspace, chooses to start an arms competition and emulate its usual real-world practices on the Web, then it will create boundaries on the network and cause unnecessary trouble for all Web users. In fact, the US is seeking to build a new hegemony in cyberspace.

China has always been blamed by the US for alleged online attacks. Yet, the US has never provided solid evidence for the charge. On the other hand, China has never criticized the US for the attacks targeting China.
