It is absolutely right and necessary for the Chinese government to buy the Chinese brand automobiles, says an article of Guangzhou Daily. Excerpts:
The Jilin provincial government has ordered Red Flag cars made by China's First Automobile Works, marking the beginning of Chinese governments' buying homemade cars. More than 10 provincial and ministry authorities have purchased FAW's cars in large numbers this year after Jilin took the lead. The proportion of homemade cars in government motorcades will become higher and higher.
Expensive foreign cars are an important part of the Chinese government's image. Using the Chinese brand will, in contrast, shorten the distance between the government and the people.
Buying cheap Chinese brand automobiles will not only reduce government expenses, but also promote the development of the national automobile industry.
This is another positive signal by the new Chinese government to improve its image and work efficiency.
Using Chinese brand cars can demonstrate the new government's confidence.
The next task is to reduce the number of government cars and turn to smaller or more environmentally friendly automobiles.
Lowering expenses on government cars and reducing emissions are more difficult than changing the car's brands. If the overall costs on cars and emissions do not drop, replacing foreign cars with Chinese brand cars will only be a symbolic show.
