Authorities should seriously consider the people's appeal to resume the long Labor Day holiday, says an editorial in Beijing Youth Daily. Excerpts:
After only a few years, many people have appealed for the return of the long Labor Day holiday. People intended to enjoy several comfortable short breaks during the Qingming Festival, Labor Day and Dragon Boat Festival. But when they traveled, they found all the holidays are crowded and noisy. And traffic is heavy because authorities waive highway tolls to encourage tourism during holidays.
Meanwhile, paid vacation can't guarantee that common people can find the time to travel except on public holidays. People can rarely enjoy a good trip during the holidays as they are supposed to, and that’s why many people want the long Labor Day vacation back.
It's reasonable that people change their attitude toward long vacations because everything changes and we should adapt. The authorities should seriously consider public opinion on this issue.
