Annual reports from some major companies, showing weak profits, make for bleak reading. Profits, while important, are only part of the picture. Development and nurturing of companies is also important, says an article in Beijing News (excerpts below):
Some people think losses at State-owned companies are caused by inefficiency and greater privatization is needed.
That is wrong. State-owned companies have shown they can compete on a global scale.
But there is no doubt that greater planning and market research are important for the success of any company. Planning commercial strategy and fully understanding your market can pay dividends in the long run.
