Schools, teachers and summer camp organizers should pay more attention to safety but summer camps are valuable, said an article in China Youth Daily (excerpts below).
It's important to reflect and pay more attention to safety issues but it's unreasonable to ban summer camps. They provide students with a valuable experience: how to cope away from home.
If we totally stop summer camps, other outdoor activities may also be stopped. Nothing is guaranteed safe, free from all risk. Camps provide a valuable exposure to nature to young people who are used to suburban landscapes.
But it doesn't mean we should not pay attention to students' security issue. The organizers should always put safety first and teach students how to cope with the unexpected.
