China made its debut at the 41st annual Macy's Flower Show on Sunday in Manhattan.
"This is absolutely beautiful. I didn't realize Chinese flowers looked like that. This made me want to go to China to see flowers there, the peony, the wintersweet flower, "could be heard from a group of tourists taking a selfie in front of the Chinese-themed garden Explore Beautiful China.
"We all know that Macy's Flower Show is the oldest and most influential flower show in America, deeply loved by the American people," Zhang Meifang, deputy consul general of China in New York, said at the opening ceremony.
"This activity will be helpful for American people to understand the Chinese culture, tradition and history, especially Chinese iconic flowers," Zhang said. "I hope through such activities to tighten the relationship between our two countries and to promote the friendship between people in our two countries.
"And since this year is the most important year for Sino-US relations, I hope this activity also has the function of heightening the atmosphere for President Xi's visit to the United States in September," Zhang said.
The garden at the 41st Flower Show was co-sponsored by the Sino-American Friendship Association (SAFA).
Explore Beautiful China also features the beauty of China's landscapes and people. Video clips were shown in the store and outside the main building.
"The flowers shown in the Explore Beautiful China display represent the power and achievements made by women around the world," said Li Li, executive vice-president of SAFA. "Our goals are to continue women's achievements and empower younger generations."
The show runs through April 4. This year's theme,Art in Bloom, is a nod to the artistic elements in each floral arrangement.
