China is launching a month-long Chinese book exhibition at the Xinhua bookstore in New York, starting May 20, aiming to better encourage the presence of Chinese books in the global book market while enhancing Sino-US cultural communication.
The exhibition is part of the BookExpo America (BEA) 2015, the largest annual book trade fair in the United States, being held at the Javits Convention Center in New York City from Wednesday to Friday, according to China National Publications Import and Export Group Corporation, one of the exhibitors.
Featuring more than 3,400 books including those reflecting Chinese governance models, Chinese traditional cultural and history and health care, the bookstore's exhibition has attracted not only Chinese Americans living in New York, but many foreigners interested in Chinese culture as well.
The books will enhance the influence of local Chinese Americans in the US while helping those Chinese living abroad better understand the current situation and changes in China.
China, the BEA's guest of honor this year, has become an emerging power in the international publishing industry in recent years. As guest of honor for BEA 2015's Global Market Forum (GMF) program, three full days of China-themed education sessions, exhibits and off-site cultural events will be featured.
The country is sending some 500 professionals from about 150 publishing companies and groups to this year's BEA, while hosting some 130 special events including publishers' summits and forums, promotion of translated Chinese books and art exhibitions.
Twenty-five renowned Chinese authors will also have dialogues and interact with their foreign peers and readers during the expo.
Leading publishers from across the world will use this occasion to showcase upcoming titles, sell current books, network with colleagues and readers, and trade copyrights.
