Born to Chinese parents in the US and grew up as a shy little girl, Joy Chen became deputy mayor of Los Angeles at age 31, responsible for education and workforce in the second largest city in the US. In 2007, she left politics and established her own head-hunting firm. Getting married to her real estate developer husband at age 38, Chen's 2012 book "Do not marry until age 30" became a popular seller in China. Recently, Chen talked to China Daily in New York about her views on marriage, work and life.
