Nestled on the Hunan-Guizhou border, Fenghuang is a small but beautiful city deep in the Tuojiang River valley. For one week in December, it hosted the biennial Phoenix Photography Festival, with 160 exhibitions showing over 300 photographers and 6,000 photographs. D J Clark went down to Hunan to investigate.
