Free laba porridge served in Beijing

Jan 19 is the eighth day of the 12th month according to the Chinese lunar calendar. It is called Laba Festival. La, in Chinese, means the last lunar month and ba means eight. It is the traditional start of celebrations for the Lunar New Year.

The lamas of Yonghegong Lama Temple in Beijing serve Laba Porridge to visitors every year on Laba Festival and this year they prepared 93 pots.

It is believed that Laba Porridge could bring people good fortune and envisions a plentiful harvest in the next year.
