CAIRO - At least 173 people were killed and 1,330 others injured in overnight clashes across Egypt between supporters of ousted president Mohamed Morsi and security forces, the cabinet spokesman said Saturday.
Sherif Shawki told reporters that the clashes started on Friday and continued until Saturday early morning.
Earlier in the day, the Interior Ministry said the police arrested about 1,118 supporters of Morsi over the recent clashes.
Morsi's loyalists staged mass rallies since Friday to protest against Wednesday's dispersal operation against their sit-ins which left at least 578 killed and over 4,200 injured.
