The city of Kunming, Yunnan province has been running a tourism promotion video to the prominent Reuters billboard in New York City's Times Square since May 22, with a 45-second show of its major scenic spots.
A Kunming tourism development official explained, "It's on at least eight times a day," then added that they intend to increase awareness of their tourism resources worldwide, since it is commonly known as the "spring city" and is a popular tourism destination in China.
One American who said he used to live in Kunming said the pictures reminded him of the city and that he would certainly like to visit it again and that its most impressive part is the warm climate, where, "even in winter, you can go outdoors in a T-shirt".
The promotional video is just the beginning of a larger online and offline overseas campaign, which will have it on mainstream English media outlets such as Boston newspapers and 15 English websites.
