RIO DE JANEIRO - The Brazilian government said Tuesday that nothing will prevent the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro from being a success, while highlighting the importance of organizing a good Olympiad for the world to see.

"We are not taking any risks in putting on a successful event," said Eliseu Padilha, the minister of the presidency, in a press release published after a meeting with interim President Michel Temer and senior Olympic executives.

Padilha cited the success Brazil saw as the organizer of the 2014 World Cup, the 2007 Panamerican Games and the 2012 World Youth Day.

"We have feedback, people know what they need to do. Success is our destiny. We cannot allow problems to happen," said Padilha.

"Temer told the team of the high hopes the world are placing in this event, which will be seen by billions of people. This is a unique opportunity for Brazil," he added.

Brazil is currently undergoing deep political and economic problems, including allegations of fraud in Olympic venues.
