JAKARTA -- A magnitude 6.3 earthquake jolted West Java Province in western Indonesia early Wednesday, but no tsunami alert was issued, the meteorology and geophysics agency said here.

The quake struck at 07 : 25 a.m. local time (0025GMT) with epicenter at 120 km northeast Subang of the province and with the depth at 654 km under sea bed, an official of the agency told Xinhua via phone.

"But we did not issued a tsunami warning," the official said.

The agency revised downward the magnitude of the quake to 6.3 immediately after it stated that it was at 6.5 magnitude, he added.

The USGS reported the quake was at 6.2 magnitude.

Indonesia is prone to quake as it sits on a vulnerable quake hit-zone so called "the Pacific Ring of Fire."
