Actions such as emission reduction and financial aid are needed to make the historic Paris Climate Agreement a successful one compared to the Copenhagen Accord, whose promises have not been met.

"Substantial and sustained emission reductions are needed to limit climate change based on the fifth assessment report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change," said Andrej Kranjc, an expert in climate change, during a relevant lecture at University of International Business and Economics on Monday night.

The fifth assessment report showed human influence being the dominant cause of the observed warming. The atmospheric concentrations of carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide have increased to levels unprecedented in last 800,000 years.

By 2010, China and the US are the world's top two countries in terms of greenhouse gas emissions. The report warned that without additional efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions today, emissions are going to continue to climb due to the growth in global population and economic activities.
