BENGHAZI - A suicide bomber on Wednesday night blew himself up outside Libya's eastern city of Benghazi, leaving at least two dead and several others injured, according to police sources.

A refrigerated truck exploded when it reached Barsis Gate, some 50 km east of Benghazi where an army checkpoint was set up, local policeman Khaled Alakora told Xinhua.

He added after the explosion, the checkpoint was in a state of chaos and body parts were scattered around the place.

Local media reported at least two people were killed and six others injured in the incident. It was not immediately clear about the identity of the bomber and who was behind the bombing.

The attack was the second of its kind on the checkpoint since a suicide bomber blew himself up last December.

Benghazi was the birthplace of the 2011 uprising against former leader Muammar Gaddafi. The city witnessed a drastic escalation of violence and has become a major base of extremists in North Africa since the US ambassador to Libya was killed in 2012.

The interim government has also failed to confiscate the weapons and ammos spread all over the country, which posed a major threat to local people.
