Manchester Bombing: What we know so far

By Conal Urquhart | chinadaily.com.cn | Updated: 2017-05-23 17:07

• Manchester police said that 22 people have died and 59 people have been injured after an explosion in the foyer of the Manchester Arena concert hall, just after the American singer Ariana Grande finished her concert.

• Police believe the explosion, which went off at 10.30pm local time was caused by a suicide bomber. Witnesses said that the bomber emerged from a “merchandising” area in the foyer and that steel bolts were scattered around the foyer after the explosion.

• The concert was full of teenagers, some of whom are among the dead.

• Police are trying to establish the identity of the bomber, whether he is part of a network and where he acquired the materials to make the bomb.

• It is the biggest terrorist attack in the UK since July 7, 2005, when four suicide bombers killed 52 people in London.

• The injured are being treated at eight hospitals around Manchester.
