China said on Monday it is concerned and worried about the Democratic People's Republic of Korea's (DPRK) announcement on satellite launch and has urged relevant parties to remain clam and exercise restraint, and prevent an escalation of tension.

President Hu Jintao made the remarks while meeting with US President Barack Obama on the sidelines of the Nuclear Security Summit in Seoul in Seoul, Republic of Korea on the afternoon on Monday.

This serves the common interests of all parties, Hu said.

The consensus reached during the third round of US-DPRK high-level dialogue last February should be cherished, he said.

We hope the United States and the DPRK will continue with contact and dialogue, uphold the consensus already achieved, and improve their relations, Hu noted.

China is ready to maintain close communication and coordination with relevant parties and jointly play a constructive role in advancing the Six-Party Talks process, and maintain regional peace and stability, he said.

China does not hope to see a reversal of the hard-won momentum of relaxation of tension on the Korean Peninsula, President Hu said while meeting with Republic of Korea President Lee Myung-bak earlier on Monday.

According to Chinese delegation spokesman Qin Gang, Hu Jintao emphasized in the meeting that recently, there have been some new developments in the situation on the Korean Peninsula, which have drawn serious attention of the international community.

China has maintained close communications with relevant parties, including the ROK, said Hu.

"At present, the situation on the Korean Peninsula is very complicated and sensitive. We do not hope to see a reversal of the hard-won momentum of relaxation of tension on the Peninsula," said Hu.

All parties should remain calm and exercise restraint, avoid aggravation of tension and, on this basis, seek an appropriate solution, said the president.

"China is ready to work with other parties and continue to make active efforts towards peace and stability of the Korean Peninsula."
