IMAX Corp, IMAX China Holding Inc and South Korean entertainment company CJ CGV announced an expansion of the companies' partnership with the addition of 25 new IMAX theatres in China on Tuesday. The theatres will be installed in new construction projects, most of which are located in first- or second-tier cities across China.
This deal has helped IMAX promote the total number of theater signings in Greater China to more than 500, while bringing its network of theaters in the region to 520. Among them, 275 theaters are open and 245 are contracted to open.
For CJ CGV, the deal has also helped to bring its commitment of establishing IMAX theaters to 122 theaters, with two in Vietnam, 20 in South Korea and 100 in China, further strengthening its position as IMAX's second-largest exhibitor partner in Asia and third-largest globally.
