MADRID - Spanish La Liga side Atletico Madrid announced Monday that they will wear a shirt sponsored by Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei for Wednesday's derby match against Real Madrid.

The agreement was presented by Atletico President Enrique Cerezo and the director of Huawei in Spain and Portugal, Walter Ji.

"Today we are making public the sponsorship agreement for Atletico Madrid for the day of the derby between two of the cities from the capital. I want to thank the interest of Huawei in sponsoring this game, through a series of actions which will allow us to project the image of both organizations. We both share a set of values, which are associated with teamwork and the instinct of overcoming problems which have pushed us towards looking for new formulas and company initiatives," said Cerezo.

Atletico are a Spanish club which looks towards the Chinese market, a fact highlighted with the club's agreement with Chinese club side Shanghai Shenhua. The shirt sponsorship follows in the wake of similar accords signed by fellow Spaniards, Villarreal who have this season seen their shirts sponsored by Chinese website Sina Weibo and who have a deal with Chinese shirt manufacturer Xtep.
