Changyou.com Ltd, the subsidiary of Chinese Internet portal Sohu.com Inc, said its majority-owned Web games subsidiary 7Road.com Ltd plans to seek a public listing in the United States on Aug 6.
The purpose of the initial public offering includes "attracting and retaining talented employees by providing them with equity incentives", the company said in a statement.
Changyou bought a majority of shares in the Internet games company in 2011. Web games — which users play through an Internet browser — have been developing quickly.
About 75 million people are expected to play Web games at the end of 2012, up 36.4 percent from 2011, according to domestic research company Analysys International.
