TIANJIN -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao has said that the Summer Davos Forum has provided a place for the international community to strengthen cooperation amid gloomy world economic situation.
Wen made the remarks on Monday when meeting with Chairman of the World Economic Forum Klaus Schwab in North China's port city Tianjin.
"The forum provides a new bridge for the international community to strengthen exchanges and cooperation when the world economy is facing difficulties," Wen said.
The sixth Annual Meeting of the New Champions, also known as the Summer Davos Forum, is slated for official opening on Tuesday afternoon. Wen will address the opening ceremony.
The forum also has high hopes on young leaders, promotes innovation and sustainable development and brings confidence and strength to people, Wen said.
The premier also reaffirmed that China will continue its reform and opening-up.
Appreciating China's support to the WEF, Schwab said the summer forum has become an important pillar of the WEF.
He said China's achievements in coping with the international financial crisis gave confidence to the world. The WEF is ready to further strengthen cooperation with China and play an active role in promoting global economic growth.
