Alibaba pockets $3b on "Singles' Day"

BEIJING -- China's e-commerce giant Alibaba pocketed 19.1 billion yuan ($3.04 billion) during its "Singles' Day" shopping promotion on November 11, it announced on Monday.
The figure was three times more than that of last year, according taobao.com, a key sales platform under Alibaba.
The e-commerce company launched its 24-hour 50-percent-off carnival on Sunday. November 11 or 11.11 has four "1"s, which represents a single person.
Figures from other e-commerce competitors are not available yet.
