Carlyle Group LP, one of the world's largest private equity firms, made investments totaling more than $700 million in China this year and next year will witness even more, the company's senior executive said on Monday.

"We remain very committed to China and we are very pleased with our performance this year," said Carlyle Managing Director David Marchick.

According to Marchick, although China's economy is slowing, there are still very good investment opportunities including the retail sector.

"So as we move into 2013, we will have a list of accomplishments we want to achieve and one of those is to be even bigger and more active in China," said Marchick.

Since entering the Chinese market in 1998, Carlyle has made about 70 transactions in China. Of these, the amount of equity investment deals totaled $4.7 billion.

In 2012, Carlyle's investment in China totaled $700 million with the money coming from five funds relating to China.

In August, it purchased a 13.5 percent stake in Shanghai-based Meinian Onehealth Healthcare Co Ltd, a Chinese leading provider of preventive healthcare checkup services.

The investment capital came from Carlyle's yuan-denominated fund totaling 5 billion yuan ($789.24 million), which was established in 2010 with Beijing's municipal government.

In July, it took a controlling 49 percent stake in China's Mandarin Hotel Holdings Ltd, tapping the country's emerging mid-tier hotel market.

The value of the investment was not revealed, but a deal by Carlyle Asia Partners III LP fund totaling $2.55 billion, through which the investment was made, is usually more than $75 million.

This year Carlyle also cashed out $1.5 billion in China.

The largest sum was in July and consisted of $738 million of H shares in China Pacific Insurance (Group) Co Ltd.

Other deals included exits from Jiangsu Sinorgchem Technology Co Ltd, a Chinese leading rubber additive producer; and Chongqing Polycomp International Corp, a manufacturer that produces E-glass fiber.
