Macao's inflation rises 4.84% in May

MACAO - Macao's Composite Consumer Price Index (CPI) for May this year went up by 4.84 percent over the same period of last year, according to the figures released Friday by the city's Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).

In comparison with May 2012, price index of Housing and fuels, Health and Food and non-alcoholic beverages recorded notable year- on-year increases of 8.66 percent, 7.16 percent and 5.98 percent respectively during the period, due to rising rentals for dwellings as well as higher charges for out-patient services and dining out, according to the figures.

Meanwhile, price index of Education and Communication decreased by 3.12 percent and 2.77 percent respectively year-on-year.

The average Composite CPI for the first five months of 2013 increased by 5.24 percent year-on-year. For the 12 months ended May 2013, the average Composite CPI increased by 5.59 percent from the preceding period.
