BEIJING -- The volume of the mobile shopping market in China reached 34.1 billion yuan ($5.59 billion) in the third quarter of 2013, a major tech industry analyst said on Tuesday.

The figure indicated a 17.1-percent quarter-on-quarter increase, and a 104-percent increase compared to that of the corresponding period in 2012, according to a report released by Analysys International.

Taobao, China's leading online retail platform, maintained its top position with about 80 percent of the mobile shopping market, followed by e-commerce site Jingdong with 8.7 percent.

The flourishing mobile shopping market was boosted by e-commerce mobile client applications, according to the report.

Traditional price wars don't help e-commerce enterprises to cultivate loyal customers, and businesses should make the best use of smart terminals, which can provide customers with more convenient service, said the Analysys report.
