China's PPI rises 6.3%, CPI up 1.8% in August

BEIJING — China's producer price index (PPI), which measures costs for goods at the factory gate, rose 6.3 percent year-on-year in August, official data showed Saturday.

The pace of PPI increase accelerated from 5.5 percent registered in July. On a month-on-month basis, the index was up 0.9 percent last month, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.

China's consumer price index (CPI), a main gauge of inflation, rose 1.8 percent year-on-year in August, the National Bureau of Statistics said Saturday.

The pace of CPI growth accelerated from July's 1.4 percent. On a monthly basis, the index was up 0.4 percent, according to the bureau.
