BEIJING- Chinese government authorities plan to hold a national forum on December 9 in Beijing to help jointly deal with food safety problems through legislation and law enforcement, sources with China Law Society said Monday.

Sponsored by China Law Society, the forum will be supported by the Supreme People's Court, the Supreme People's Procuratorate, the ministries of Public Security, Health and Agriculture, State Administration for Industry and Commerce, General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, and the State Food and Drug Administration.

These authorities are also the Chinese government's main law enforcement agencies in handling food safety issues.

Officials from the eight agencies will deliver speeches, exchange information for cracking down on illegalities related to food safety, and introduce their strong wills and methods to deal with the issue, according to a press release from China Law Society.

Food safety has become one of the most concerning issues for Chinese people since various scandals, such as tainted infant formula and cooking oil collected from sewers, have been exposed by the media.
