The suspect, Jiang Haitao, a 51-year-old Shenyang native, and an accomplice Wang Liping, also a local, robbed and shot a man, critically wounding him, on Friday morning after the man withdrew money from a bank. They took away about 40,000 yuan ($6,350), according to the provincial public security department.
Police launched a manhunt for the two suspects after the incident and caught Wang on Friday. Wang confessed that he encouraged Jiang to commit robberies.
Police located Jiang on Saturday evening, but he hid in his 20-square-meter home and shot at police, wounding two, as they attempted arrest, according to the provincial police department.
After Jiang fired at the police, he was shot dead at around 9 pm. The gun was seized, according to police, who did not specify the type of the gun used.
The two police officers were wounded in the hand and leg, respectively, and both are in stable condition, according to the Liaoning public security bureau.
The robbery victim, surnamed Wen, was severely wounded and was still in critical condition on Sunday after undergoing emergency treatment, according to the Hospital of Liaoning Armed Police, where Wen is being treated.
