Playing with lightning

Wang Hongbin plays guitar as high voltage of up to 1 million volts, generated by a Tesla coil transformer, runs through his body during a stunt performance in the backyard of his home in Zhenping village of Heshang county, East China's Fujian province on July 21. Wang's 30-year-old uncle Wang Zengxiang, one of the craziest fans of the Tesla coil stunt, has dedicated himself in the daredevil career for a decade. He is now the leader of a band of four. A Tesla coil is an electrical resonant transformer circuit invented by Nikola Tesla around 1891. The transformer produces high voltage at high frequencies, which acts as a giant lightning machine, and creates long bolts of electricity. Shielded by protective clothing, the performer is insulated from the electricity current which dissipates through the ground. [Photo/Asianewsphoto]
