China will launch a crackdown on drivers who use drugs, the Ministry of Public Security confirmed Monday.

Police nationwide are busy examining a database of coach and truck drivers and comparing it with a database of registered drug addicts, the ministry said in a statement.

Drivers who match on the database will have their license canceled within 30 days.

Applications for a driver's license by known drug addicts will also be rejected.

The move came after an investigation into a fatal crash in April was blamed on a driving using crystal methamphetamine.

On April 22, a coach collided with a truck on an expressway in East China's Jiangsu province, killing 14 people and injuring 20 others.
