The shooting happened under the Baisha bridge near the hospital affiliated to the Guangxi Medical University in the city's Qingxiu district, according to a report on the provincial news portal gxnews.com.cn.
It quoted a man surnamed Deng, who was about 100 meters away from where the shooting happened, who said he heard something that sounded like a tire explosion at about 3:30 am.
Before the police arrived, Deng said he went to the spot and saw a man on the ground, dead.
The report said the man was shot in the head, citing an unnamed policeman at the scene. The case is under further investigation.
