BEIJING  -- A Shenzhen Airlines flight was diverted to an airport in central China's Wuhan city where it landed safely after receiving a threatening message on Thursday evening, the company said in the early hours of Friday morning.

Flight ZH9706, from Xiangfan city in Hubei Province to Shenzhen, landed at Wuhan Tianhe International Airport at 11:22 p.m. out of concern for passenger safety, the carrier said in a special announcement via its official microblog account at Sina Weibo (e.weibo.com/shenzhenair).

The announcement did not elaborate what the message was, which was received at 10:29 p.m. when the aircraft was in the air.

Police have intervened to investigate, the company said.

This is the second similar incident in China's civil aviation industry in a week.

An Air China flight from Beijing to New York returned to the Beijing Capital International Airport after receiving a threatening message on Wednesday evening.

No abnormalities were detected on the flight, which departed for New York hours later.
