BEIJING - The All-China Youth Federation and the All-China Students Federation issued statements on Wednesday, expressing strong indignation toward and opposition against Japan's so-called "purchase" of the Diaoyu Islands.
Despite strong warnings and opposition voiced by top Chinese leaders, the Japanese government on Tuesday signed a purchase contract with the Kurihara family, which Japan claims is the "private owner" of the Diaoyu Islands.
The statements described the move as a gross violation of China's territorial sovereignty, hurting the feelings of the Chinese people and jeopardizing China-Japan relations. "Chinese young people and students hereby express our firm opposition and strong indignation," it continued.
According to the statement, the Diaoyu Islands and their affiliated islets have been an inherent part of Chinese territory since ancient times, and China has indisputable sovereignty over them, backed by historical facts and jurisprudential evidence.
However, Japan has consistently made provocative moves, even announcing the "purchase" of the islands to "nationalize them," which is illegal and invalid, and incapable of denying China's sovereignty over these islands.
The Japanese government's claim that the Diaoyu Islands are Japan's inherent territory shows a pure disregard for historical facts and an outright denial of the outcomes of the victory of the world's anti-Fascist war and constitutes a grave challenge to post-war international order.
The statements also pointed out that Chinese young people and students have long spearheaded the nation's defense of its territorial sovereignty and tolerated no attempts to encroach upon China's territory. Chinese youths will stand firmly behind the government in any necessary measures and actions of justice to safeguard the nation's sovereignty.
